NET PROTOCOL
While net control calls the net, the data is recorded in a computer by a different station, using a fixed protocol (format).  For the computer operator to keep up with net control it is necessary that the weather information be presented in a particular sequence, as follows:

Snow is always measured in inches.  Round to the nearest inch.
Use a simple ruler or yard stick.

     Wind reporting conventions:

Direction       use 8 compass points-- N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW
Direction is always where the wind is blowing from.
That means if you face the wind, the direction
                        you are looking.

Speed           Always MPH.  The speed shown should be an
                        average from about 1 minute.

Gust            The highest wind during the last 24 hours.

Visibility      Report in miles.  If less than 1 mile report in
                        tenths of a mile.

     Reporting Precipitation

Give the amount of liquid water that fell during
the last 24 hours.  Report in hundredths of
                        inches.
                        Examples 2.20"  or 0.00 inches.  T = trace.
Trace means the amount was too little to measure.

Avoid reporting DEW as a Trace of rain.
